Chamoli – The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has granted approval for the construction of a new bridge over the Alaknanda River in Chamoli. Following this approval, the National Highway Authority has initiated the process of preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The existing bridge on this route, connecting Chamoli to Gopeshwar, has been in use for nearly four decades and has a limited load-bearing capacity. Given these factors, plans for constructing a new, more durable bridge have been made.
According to officials from the National Highway Authority, the Ministry has approved the proposal for the bridge, and work has begun on the necessary procedures, including DPR formation. Chief Engineer of the National Highway, Dayanand, stated that the old bridge on the Chamoli-Gopeshwar route has outlived its utility. The new bridge will be wider and capable of supporting heavier loads. The construction is expected to take approximately two years to complete.
