As part of the ongoing water conservation and enhancement campaign, District Magistrate Savin Bansal today inspected the historic Rajpur Bawdi (located on Old Mussoorie Road). This marks the second inspection under the campaign, which aims to promote the preservation of natural water sources. Previously, another natural spring was also inspected as part of the effort. The primary goal of the campaign is to rejuvenate local water sources while preserving their natural structures.
The District Magistrate emphasized that the campaign will focus on the protection of natural water sources like springs, ponds, and lakes. No civil construction will be undertaken for this purpose; instead, local materials like soil and stones will be used to preserve these water bodies in a natural way. This approach not only ensures the conservation of water sources but also maintains their historical significance.
The District Magistrate called upon local residents, social organizations, and self-help groups to join this campaign. He also stressed that the primary objective of the initiative is not only water conservation but also the preservation of the historical sites located in the district. The active participation of self-help groups, social organizations, and local residents will speed up both the conservation and enhancement of water sources. This effort will ensure water availability while strengthening the local ecosystem.
Under this campaign, over 70 springs, ponds, and bawdis in and around Dehradun have already been surveyed. All water sources will be preserved through natural and scientific methods. The District Magistrate mentioned that the success of this initiative relies on the active involvement of local communities and organizations.
Scientific methods are also being used for the recharge and conservation of water sources, with expert supervision to ensure sustainable outcomes. Additionally, Padma Shri awardee Kalyan Singh Rawat Maiti, who has made significant contributions to water and environmental conservation, has been included as a member of the committee to bring his experience to the campaign.
