Five-Year-Old Girl Raped in Pithoragarh, CCTV Footage Leads to Accused’s Arrest

Pithoragarh – A five-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and raped in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, sending shockwaves across the region. The accused was arrested after police traced him through CCTV footage, while the medical examination confirmed the sexual assault. The child is currently undergoing treatment under medical supervision.

According to police, the incident came to light on Tuesday after a businessman from another state, who runs a shop in the town, reported that his five-year-old daughter had gone missing. A search operation was immediately launched, and police teams began scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area to track the child’s movements.

During the investigation, CCTV footage showed a man holding the girl’s hand and taking her away. After several hours of searching, the child was found near Tankpur Tiraha around midnight in a distressed and disoriented condition. She was immediately taken for medical examination after police suspected sexual assault.

The medical report later confirmed that the minor had been raped. Following the report, police intensified efforts to identify and locate the suspect. Acting on evidence collected during the investigation, police arrested 35-year-old Hoshiyar Singh, a resident of Rai, Dhanaura, late on Thursday night.

Superintendent of Police Akshay Prahlad Konde said the accused has been arrested and sent to jail under relevant legal provisions. He added that the victim remains admitted to the women’s hospital, where doctors are continuously monitoring her condition.

The SP also announced a cash reward of ₹5,000 for the police team involved in solving the case. Police said the investigation is continuing to gather further evidence and complete all legal formalities.

The incident has raised serious concerns over the safety of children and prompted calls for swift justice. Police have assured that the case will be investigated thoroughly and that strict legal action will be taken against the accused.
