Special Program on Breast Cancer Awareness Month Organized in Dehradun

Dehradun, October 26, 2024 – The National Health Mission (NHM) in Uttarakhand organized a special program to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, aiming to raise awareness among women about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. Held at Government Doon Medical College, the event included doctors, healthcare workers, ASHA volunteers, and the public.

Experts discussed the significance of recognizing early symptoms, regular check-ups, and leading a healthy lifestyle to reduce breast cancer risk. The program featured an awareness rally and a quiz competition to further promote the cause.

Dr. Fariduzafar, Assistant Director of NHM, emphasized self-examinations, regular screenings, and vigilance for any unusual symptoms. He noted that free consultation and screening services are being offered at health centers, with screening available at Ayushman Arogya centers across the state. Over 7.5 lakh women have undergone cancer screenings in the past three years.

Dr. Anupama Arya, Head of Community Medicine at Government Doon Medical College, recommended a balanced diet, regular exercise, and avoiding alcohol and smoking to lower cancer risk. She highlighted the importance of breastfeeding in reducing cancer risk and managing stress through yoga and meditation.
