A major irregularity surfaced during the SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) exam in Dehradun after a candidate was caught with a Bluetooth device inside the test centre. Police say the incident has raised serious concerns, and the role of the digital exam centre’s owner may also come under scrutiny.
The cheating attempt took place at Mahadevi Kanya Inter College, where the Mahadev Digital Zone was being used as the examination venue. Candidate Deepak was caught with a Bluetooth device, allegedly provided by a temporary staff member named Lucky. Police arrested Deepak on the spot.
Role of Digital Zone Staff Under Scanner
According to police investigations, Lucky was specially hired by the centre owner only for the SSC exam period between 12 and 30 November. Officers are now probing how well the owner knew him, who assigned him the responsibility inside the centre, and whether he was part of a larger network. Police also want to know how Deepak contacted him and whether more candidates were involved.
Exam Integrity Could Face Questions
Officials say if Lucky turns out to be part of a wider cheating chain, the credibility of the entire exam could be questioned. Investigators suspect he may have assisted more than one candidate, though this is yet to be proven.
SSP Ajay Singh said that so far, only one cheating attempt has been confirmed and the exam’s overall integrity is not yet under doubt. Police teams are searching for Lucky, a resident of Dehradun, and another accused named Jaish.
Accused Candidate Sent to Jail
Deepak was presented in court on Tuesday and subsequently sent to judicial custody. Police say he planned to receive answers through the Bluetooth device from his associate Jaish, who is currently absconding.
How the Device Entered the Exam Centre
The exam venue was rented by an outsourced company for SSC exams. Local manager Bhagwan stated in his complaint that candidates entered the exam hall after thorough checking. Deepak reportedly entered without any device, but later stepped out on the pretext of using the washroom. When he returned, a second round of checking detected the Bluetooth device.
