Weather conditions in Uttarakhand are likely to change, with light rain and snowfall expected in the mountainous regions, while dense fog may continue to affect the plains. According to the Meteorological Centre, parts of Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh may receive light rain and snowfall, with higher chances of snowfall in areas above 2800 metres.
In contrast, dense fog and frost are likely to persist in parts of Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Champawat and Pauri districts. A yellow alert has been issued for these areas, indicating cold day-like conditions due to reduced visibility and low temperatures.
Although plains witnessed slight relief from fog during daytime earlier, cold wave conditions continued to trouble residents. Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 20.8 degrees Celsius, slightly above normal, but cold winds kept the chill intact. In the hill districts, temperatures dropped further due to prevailing cold wave conditions.
The weather department has indicated that after this brief spell of rain and snowfall in higher reaches, the weather across the state is likely to remain dry in the coming days.
