Dehradun – Naik Mahavir Singh Rawat was cremated with full military honours in Haridwar amid an emotional atmosphere. His son, Gaurav Rawat, performed the last rites after appearing for his GATE examination, a moment that left many present deeply moved.

Mahavir Singh Rawat (51), son of late Virendra Singh Rawat, was posted as a Naik in the Defence Security Corps (DSC) in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. He passed away on February 5 due to cardiac arrest. His mortal remains were brought from Delhi to Dehradun airport by an IndiGo flight on Saturday evening at around 6:30 pm.

On Sunday, a large number of people gathered at his residence in Kothari Mohalla, Jolly Grant, to pay their last respects. However, Rawat’s son Gaurav had his GATE examination scheduled at a college in Premnagar. After completing the exam at around 12:30 pm, he reached home by nearly 2 pm and later performed his father’s last rites.

As soon as the mortal remains reached home, the family broke down in grief. Rawat’s wife Himanshi Rawat was inconsolable, while his younger sister Manju Devi reportedly fainted for some time due to shock.

Local MLA Brij Bhushan Gairola and Nagar Palika president Narendra Negi paid floral tributes to the soldier and expressed condolences to the bereaved family. Several residents and former colleagues also attended the funeral, remembering Rawat as a disciplined and dedicated soldier.
