Bangladesh National Held in Dehradun for Fake Documents After Marriage to Local Woman

Bangladesh national arrested in Dehradun

Dehradun – Police have arrested a Bangladesh national and a woman from Tyuni for allegedly creating fake identity documents and living illegally in the city for years. Police said the accused—identified as Mamun Hasan from Meherpur, Bangladesh, and Reena Chauhan from Tyuni—were staying in the Nehru Colony area using forged Indian documents.

According to investigators, Mamun and Reena became friends through Facebook. Between 2019 and 2021, Mamun visited India three times on a tourist visa and met Reena. In 2022, Mamun allegedly took Reena illegally across the border into Bangladesh, where both got married. The duo then re-entered India without valid documents and began living in rented rooms in Dehradun.

Police revealed that Reena arranged fake Aadhaar, PAN and other identity cards for Mamun using the name of her former husband, Sachin Chauhan. Using these forged documents, Mamun had been working as a bouncer at a club in Dehradun while posing as Sachin Chauhan. Police have confiscated the fake documents and arrested both accused.

Officials said more individuals who helped prepare the forged documents are being traced. Under Operation Kalnemi, Dehradun Police have so far taken action against 16 Bangladesh nationals—nine deported and seven sent to jail. Police said such cases highlight serious lapses in document verification and the need for stricter monitoring to prevent illegal stays.
