Tribal School Students to Study Bhagavad Gita: First in Uttarakhand, Curriculum Introduced from Class 4 to 10

Uttarakhand – A tribal residential school in Dehradun has become the first educational institution in Uttarakhand to introduce the Bhagavad Gita as a compulsory subject. Students from Class 4 to 10 at the Jhajhra-based Doon Sanskriti School will now study the Gita as part of their daily academic schedule.

The school authorities said the subject has been formally added alongside Mathematics, Hindi, and English. To implement the curriculum, Acharya Ankit Arya from Ponda Gurukul has been appointed as the instructor.

Former MP Tarun Vijay stated that the initiative was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal and the symbolic gesture of presenting the Gita to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He added that the school aims to expand the movement nationwide and appealed to other institutions to adopt the text as part of their regular teaching. He also acknowledged the support of Sudhir Gulati, President of Arya Samaj Mandir, Dhamawala.

The Bhagavad Gita classes will be held daily, similar to other core subjects. The course began on Saturday, marking the first official session. Students from Nagaland, Manipur, and other northeastern states studying at the school will also be part of this new academic inclusion.
