The rescue operation in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand concluded on Sunday after the bodies of all four missing workers were recovered, bringing the death toll to eight. A total of 54 workers were trapped in the avalanche near the Mana region on the China border, out of which 46 were rescued safely. The rescue operation lasted three days and was completed successfully.
Rescue Efforts and Timeline
The avalanche struck early on Friday, trapping 54 workers from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Indian Army initiated rescue efforts immediately. On the first day, 33 workers were rescued, followed by additional successful rescues on Saturday, bringing the total to 46. Tragically, the bodies of four workers were recovered earlier, while the search for the remaining four continued until Sunday when their bodies were found.
Injured Workers Under Treatment
The injured workers were airlifted to the military hospital in Jyotirmath for medical treatment. Two severely injured individuals were transferred to AIIMS Rishikesh, while others are receiving treatment in Jyotirmath. The rescue operation involved seven military helicopters and one private helicopter.

Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari confirmed that no individuals remain missing. The last body is being transported from the Mana region using a helicopter.
