CM Dhami Attends Chaitra Ashtami Fair, Announces ₹5 Lakh for Event

Chaukutia: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday attended the Chaitra Ashtami Fair at the historic Maa Agneri Temple in Chaukutia, offering prayers for the state’s prosperity. Addressing the gathering, he announced ₹5 lakh for the fair’s organization and highlighted the event’s significance in preserving local traditions and raising awareness about social issues.

The fair featured folk performances from Kumaon and Garhwal, along with plays and tableaux promoting environment conservation, women’s education, and anti-drug campaigns. The CM lauded the event’s role in strengthening cultural identity and community participation.

During his speech, Dhami outlined several development initiatives for the region, including:

  • Postgraduate courses in Economics and English, along with science programs at Chaukutia College.
  • Scientific revival of water sources to tackle Dwarahat’s drinking water shortage.
  • Construction of check dams on the Gagas River to support irrigation and flood control.
  • Upgrading the Chaukutia Community Health Center from 30 to 50 beds, along with a new digital X-ray facility.
  • Strengthening riverbanks along Ramganga near the Maa Agneri Temple to prevent erosion.
  • Renaming roads and institutions in honor of freedom fighters and martyrs.

Jageshwar Prasadam Scheme Launched

In a major initiative under the Himotthan Project, Dhami launched the Jageshwar Prasadam Scheme, which will involve self-help groups preparing traditional sweets like Bal Mithai using local ingredients. Pilgrims will also receive copper coins engraved with Jageshwar Dham’s image, along with a booklet on the temple’s history. The scheme aims to boost the local economy and provide financial empowerment for women.

Union Minister Ajay Tamta and local leaders praised Dhami’s initiatives for infrastructure, education, and employment, calling them crucial for the state’s progress. The event saw a large turnout of residents, officials, and community representatives, underscoring the fair’s religious and cultural importance.
