Dehradun: Police have made a significant breakthrough in the murder of gangster Vikram Sharma, who was shot dead inside Silver City Mall in the Dalanwala area. In a joint operation by Uttarakhand Police and the Special Task Force, two accused have been arrested, while six others remain absconding.
Addressing a press conference, police officials said the incident took place on February 13 at Silver City Mall, where unidentified assailants opened fire at Vikram Sharma, leading to his death on the spot. Police teams rushed to the scene immediately and collected evidence with the help of forensic experts.
During investigation, it emerged that the deceased was a history-sheeter from Jharkhand and was allegedly involved in multiple cases of murder, extortion and other serious crimes. Police analysed CCTV footage, surveillance inputs and technical evidence to trace the accused.
Investigators found that three attackers arrived on a motorcycle and, after executing the crime, fled towards the Sahastradhara area where they changed their vehicle before escaping towards Haridwar. The motorcycle used in the crime was recovered, and further investigation was carried out in Jharkhand and Greater Noida, leading to the arrest of two accused.
Police said the murder was the result of old criminal rivalry and an attempt to establish dominance. The conspiracy had reportedly been planned over a long period, with the accused creating hideouts in different states to avoid detection.
The arrested accused have been identified as Akshat Thakur alias Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of Jugsalai in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, and Rajkumar, a resident of Garabasa Bagh Beda, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.
