A youth was shot dead outside a gym at Silver City Complex on Rajpur Road in Dehradun on Friday morning. The victim, identified as Vikram Sharma, was shot in the head while stepping out of the gym and died on the spot. According to initial police information, the attacker was on foot and fled immediately after firing. Vikram Sharma was reportedly involved in property and mining-related work. Police teams reached the scene soon after the incident, secured the area and began collecting evidence. CCTV footage from nearby establishments is being examined to identify the आरोपी.
The broad daylight shooting in one of the city’s busiest commercial stretches triggered panic among local residents and shopkeepers. Police have launched a search operation and intensified checking at key exit points in the city.
Rising Crime in Capital Raises Policing Questions
The latest killing comes just days after businessman Arjun Sharma was shot dead outside Tibetan Market. That incident had already raised concerns about security preparedness in crowded market areas. Earlier this month, the Gunjan murder case in Dulha Bazaar also drew public attention after a woman was killed in daylight.
In addition, the murder of 12th class student Manisha Tomar in Vikasnagar and the shooting of Preeti Rawat in Rishikesh have added to fears over deteriorating law and order in the region. The recurrence of violent crimes within a short span has created a perception of insecurity among residents.
Despite increased patrolling and the formation of special teams after previous incidents, repeated shootings in public places indicate possible gaps in preventive policing and intelligence monitoring. The administration now faces pressure to strengthen surveillance, ensure visible policing in high-footfall zones and restore public confidence in the capital’s security system.
