Dehradun — A serious case of alleged misuse of disability certificates for obtaining government teaching jobs has surfaced in Uttarakhand. According to the Secondary Education Department, 52 LT and lecturer cadre teachers are under scrutiny for allegedly securing appointments using questionable disability documents. Of these, 37 are currently posted in Tehri district, while the remaining are distributed across Dehradun (7), Haridwar and Pauri (3 each), and Uttarkashi (2).
Departmental inquiry reports indicate that these appointments date back to 1987–2019, raising concerns about loopholes in document verification that went unchecked for decades. Officials confirmed that five teachers have since retired, and six have been absent from duty for extended periods, complicating the investigation process.
Secondary Education Director Dr. Mukul Kumar Sati stated that a detailed review of service records is underway and discrepancies have emerged regarding disability documents submitted at the time of appointment. The department has compiled updated district-wise data and initiated steps for legal and disciplinary action.
This case has triggered criticism over the department’s monitoring system, with observers pointing out that despite repeated internal alerts over the years, corrective measures were either delayed or ineffective. Questions are now being raised over how questionable documents cleared multiple layers of administrative verification without objection.
Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat said that strict action will follow if fraud is confirmed, including dismissal from service and recovery of salary. A five-member committee headed by Dr. Mukul Kumar Sati is currently completing the verification process.
The department has stated that maintaining fairness in recruitment is essential to protect opportunities for genuinely eligible candidates, especially in reserved categories.
