From 2026, Doon University will launch a specialized MA course in Hindu Studies, becoming the first university in Uttarakhand to establish a dedicated department for this discipline. Inspired by Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Delhi University (DU), the curriculum will delve into Hindu theology, ancient sciences, Hindu scriptures, and cultural traditions.
Following the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Doon University will emphasize a holistic understanding of Hindu texts like the Ramayana, Mahabharata, Vedas, Vedanta, and classical literature from figures such as Kalidas and Tulsidas. The course will also cover Hindu literature, archaeology, military science, and classical arts. Due to the novelty of this course, Doon University is collaborating with trained faculty from BHU and DU to overcome staffing challenges.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Surekha Dangwal noted that students will gain skills applicable to careers in Hindu research, teaching, and even global opportunities as spiritual guides and consultants.
