The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) to revise the selection list for Draftsman posts. Following the order, candidates holding an ITI certificate will now also be eligible for positions that were earlier reserved only for applicants with a Diploma in Draftsman qualification in the Urban Development Department recruitment.

The matter was heard by Justice Ravindra Maithani in a single bench. The petition was filed by Prakash Singh from Chamoli, challenging the selection result published on January 8, 2025. The petition stated that the merit list was issued with separate cut-offs, which violated existing recruitment rules. It was also argued that no ITI-qualified candidate, including the petitioner, was selected for the posts. Once this issue came to light, selected candidates, including Lalit Mohan Pandey and 32 others, filed an application to be made party to the case.

According to the petitioner, the initial advertisement for these posts was released in 2021 by UKSSSC. After the recruitment scam controversy, the responsibility was transferred to the Public Service Commission. UKPSC issued a new advertisement on 29 May 2023 for 64 vacancies. The written examination was conducted on 5 November 2023, and the results were released on 21 December 2023. The January 8, 2025 selection list was challenged on the basis of alleged irregularities.

The court has now instructed the Commission to revise the entire selection list in accordance with regulations, giving ITI certificate holders an equal opportunity.
