The Election Commission has launched a three-month-long special campaign in Uttarakhand to identify and remove duplicate voters from the electoral rolls. As per directives from the Central Election Commission, the voter list will be thoroughly cleaned, and suspicious entries will be flagged and assigned unique identification numbers.
According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Uttarakhand currently has 85,19,271 registered voters and 11,729 Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Political parties are also preparing Booth Level Agents (BLAs), who will assist in the verification process by identifying potential duplicate entries.
Verification and Appeal Process for Duplicate Voters
-
BLAs will identify suspicious voters and inform the respective BLOs.
-
BLOs will conduct field verification and recommend necessary actions such as corrections, changes, or deletions in the voter list.
-
If a voter is dissatisfied with the outcome, they can file a first appeal with the District Magistrate.
-
A second appeal can be made to the Chief Electoral Officer.
-
The commission will also investigate cases where old and new voters share the same EPIC number and will assign unique numbers to such voters.
