Earthquake tremors felt in Uttarkashi at night, residents rush out of homes

Mild earthquake tremors were felt late Monday night in Uttarkashi district headquarters and nearby areas, triggering panic among residents. People rushed out of their homes as the tremors were experienced while many were preparing to sleep.

According to local information, the tremors were felt at around 10:05 pm. Though the intensity was reported to be low, the sudden shaking created fear, especially among residents living in multi-storey buildings. Several people remained outdoors for some time as a precaution.

No loss of life or property has been reported so far. The district administration has not issued any damage assessment report, and officials said the situation remains normal.

Uttarkashi is considered a sensitive seismic zone. The district had witnessed a devastating earthquake in 1991, which caused large-scale destruction and claimed several lives. Due to this history, even mild tremors often cause concern among locals.
