Khatima – A shocking case of fraud and exploitation has surfaced in Khatima, where a man posing as a soldier of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) allegedly got engaged to a woman, built a physical relationship with her, and later cheated her family of ₹2.77 lakh. The police have registered a case against the accused and his family following a court order.
According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Akash Singh, a resident of Dewri village, introduced himself to the victim’s parents in 2021, claiming to be an SSB jawan. When the proposal was initially rejected, Akash and his family — including his mother Vimla Devi and sister Anjali — allegedly showed doctored photographs of him wearing an SSB uniform and receiving an award from a DIG to gain the family’s trust.
Believing his story, the woman’s family agreed to the engagement in September 2022. After that, Akash frequently contacted the woman and her family, demanding money through Google Pay, citing reasons like being on duty, poor network, and helping friends. Later, he claimed his account was frozen due to a suspension from duty and requested ₹3 lakh for penalty payments. The victim borrowed and gave him ₹2 lakh.
On December 23, 2023, Akash took the woman to Nainital on the pretext of a trip and allegedly forced physical relations in a hotel. When her parents later approached Akash and his mother regarding the marriage, they started avoiding them. Suspecting foul play, the family checked with the SSB camp and discovered that Akash was never employed there.
Khatima Police Station in-charge Manohar Singh Dasouni confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused and his family as per court directions, and an investigation is underway.
