Dehradun, 08 November 2024 – A state-level, one-day workshop focused on family planning services was organized under the National Health Mission (NHM) to enhance awareness and excellence in family planning initiatives in Uttarakhand. The workshop aimed to educate stakeholders about the significance of family planning, especially focusing on the timing and spacing of pregnancies for the health of both mother and child.
The workshop covered a range of family planning methods, including Intrauterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD), Postpartum IUCD (PPIUCD), Antara injection, oral contraceptive pills, and Chhaya emergency contraceptive pills. Detailed guidance was provided on the technical aspects and counseling strategies related to long-term and short-term contraceptive methods.
The primary goal of the workshop was to promote family planning services across the state, sharing effective approaches to improve healthcare services and spread awareness within communities. Officials discussed policy measures related to family planning, healthcare service enhancements, and community-based awareness initiatives.

During the workshop, district-level achievements were evaluated, and several districts, including Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi, and Tehri, were recognized for their outstanding contributions to family planning services.
Prominent attendees included Dr. Anupama Prasad, Deputy Commissioner of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Mithun Dutta (Consultant), Dr. Sunita Tamta, Director of Medical Health and Family Welfare, Uttarakhand, Dr. Narendra Sharma, Director of National Programs, Dr. Manu Jain, Director of NHM, Dr. Uma Rawat, Assistant Director of Family Planning (NHM), and Dr. Meghna Aswal, Master Trainer in Safe Abortions, along with district representatives from across the state.
