On the first day of Chaitra Navratri, the Uttarakhand government issued an official order for the establishment of the state’s first girls sports college in Lohaghat, Champawat. This landmark decision, previously announced by the Chief Minister, is seen as a gift to female athletes across the state.
Sports Minister Rekha Arya described the new institution as a dedicated platform where girls can nurture both their academic pursuits and sporting talents. With modern sports science technologies, the college aims to enhance the performance of female athletes at national and international levels, contributing significantly to transforming Uttarakhand into a hub for sports excellence.
Rekha Arya further highlighted that despite the commendable achievements of female athletes at the 38th National Games, there had been no government institution solely focused on preparing girls as competitive players. The establishment of the girls sports college in Champawat will bridge this gap, ensuring that young female athletes receive the specialized training they need to excel.
