A leopard attack near an inter college in Bahadrabad area of Haridwar left two people seriously injured, triggering panic among residents. The incident took place near the National Inter College in Rohalki Kishanpur, where the animal reportedly attacked a man and his nephew.
The injured have been identified as Kapil Kumar (36) and his nephew Shubham Kumar (26), both residents of Rohalki Kishanpur. According to locals, the duo was returning home on a motorcycle around 8:30 pm when the leopard suddenly emerged from nearby fields and attacked them. Both fell on the road during the assault and sustained serious injuries before raising an alarm, prompting nearby residents to rush in and drive the animal away.
The injured were immediately shifted to a private hospital for treatment. Notably, this was the second such incident in the area within two days. A day earlier, a 60-year-old shopkeeper, Lalit Chauhan, was also attacked by a leopard while returning home at night, indicating repeated wildlife movement near human settlements.
The back-to-back attacks have sparked anger among villagers, who accused the forest department of delayed response. Reports said locals briefly detained the forest department team that arrived at the spot, demanding immediate action and installation of cages to capture the animal.
Forest Range Officer Shishupal Singh said that two cages are being installed in Rohalki village and patrolling has been intensified. He assured that efforts are underway to capture the leopard at the earliest.
