Haridwar Police have uncovered a vehicle theft gang and arrested four accused, recovering a total of 10 stolen motorcycles during the operation. The action comes amid a special campaign launched to curb rising incidents of vehicle theft across the district.
Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh Bhullar stated that multiple online e-FIRs regarding motorcycle thefts were registered on April 4 through the Uttarakhand Police app. These complaints were reported from areas including SIDCUL, Ranipur, and nearby localities, prompting intensified police action.
To crack the cases, police teams were formed under the leadership of Station House Officer Manohar Singh Bhandari. During a checking operation on April 5, the team detained four suspects near the cremation ground along the canal bank.
During interrogation, the accused were identified as Vipin from Muzaffarnagar, Gaurav from Laksar, Nitin from Moradabad, and another Gaurav from Manglaur. Police recovered three stolen motorcycles from their possession at the time of arrest.
Further questioning revealed that the accused were allegedly addicted to drugs and committed thefts to sustain their addiction. They would steal motorcycles from isolated locations, hide them in bushes near canals, and later sell them at low prices to passersby or scrap dealers.
Based on their disclosure, police recovered a total of 10 motorcycles, including vehicles stolen from Ranipur, SIDCUL, Faridabad, and Delhi. Officials said the gang had been active for a considerable period and primarily targeted unattended vehicles in secluded areas.
