The eighth edition of the joint military exercise between India and Kazakhstan commenced today in Auli, Uttarakhand. The exercise will continue until October 13, 2024, with a focus on enhancing the counter-terrorism capabilities of soldiers from both nations. The opening ceremony saw the presence of Colonel Karibayev Nurlan Serikbayevich from Kazakhstan and Colonel Yogesh Upadhyay, commander of the Indian contingent.
Around 120 Indian soldiers, primarily from the 5th Battalion of the Kumaon Regiment, are participating alongside 60 Kazakh soldiers from the Land Forces, Air Defense Forces, and Airborne Assault Troops. The exercise aims to improve military capabilities in counter-terrorism operations under the United Nations mandate, with particular emphasis on training for semi-urban and mountainous terrain operations.

During the exercise, troops will engage in joint command post setups, intelligence and surveillance center creation, helipad security, and the use of drone technology. This training is expected to enhance technical and strategic cooperation between India and Kazakhstan while also bolstering defense relations.
