Former MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion, jailed in the firing case, has had his judicial custody extended by seven days. The court has ordered his appearance on February 27, the same day his bail plea will be heard. However, he will not be shifted to jail until his medical report arrives.

Singh was arrested on January 27 for allegedly firing at Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar’s office and was subsequently placed under judicial custody. His custody was later extended for 14 days, and he has remained in jail since.

On February 15, after his health deteriorated, he was transferred from the jail hospital to the district hospital, where doctors advised shifting him to a higher medical center. However, he refused. As preparations were being made to move him back to jail, he reported burning sensations and pain during urination, preventing his discharge.

During the hearing on Thursday, the court extended his custody until February 27. Currently, he remains admitted to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the district hospital, which lacks ICU facilities but houses critically ill patients. The hospital administration has raised concerns that his prolonged stay is affecting the availability of beds for other serious patients. A medical committee’s report will determine when he will be shifted back to jail.
