Uttarakhand’s flagship sports event Khel Mahakumbh will now be organised under a new name and format as the Chief Minister Champions Trophy 2025–26. The revamped tournament will begin from December 23 and will include 26 different sports competitions across the state.

Sports Minister Rekha Arya announced the change during a press conference at the Secretariat. She said the tournament will be conducted in four phases, starting from the Nyaya Panchayat level, followed by Assembly, Parliamentary constituency, and finally the state-level competition.

The championship will conclude on January 28. The overall champion will be decided based on points awarded for medals won across events and will receive a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh along with the Chief Minister Champions Trophy. The MP Trophy winner will get Rs 2 lakh, while the Assembly Trophy winner will receive Rs 1 lakh.

Rekha Arya said athletes breaking national records during the tournament will be given an additional reward of Rs 1 lakh. Registrations began earlier, and more than 1.10 lakh players have already registered. Online registrations will remain open until December 22.

Separate competitions will also be organised for differently-abled athletes in athletics, badminton, and swimming. The Sports Minister said this step aims to ensure wider participation and equal opportunities.
