A massive fire broke out in the Thua forest near Chada village along the Almora-Haldwani Highway, triggering panic among local residents. Within minutes, the flames turned fierce, raising fears that the fire could spread toward Paithani and Chhada villages. Despite the raging fire since evening, the forest department remained inactive, exposing the hollowness of claims made about wildfire preparedness.
On Sunday, the fire engulfed a large part of the forest near the highway. Witnesses reported that the flames quickly spread over a vast area, leading to significant destruction of forest resources and posing a threat to wildlife. Alarmed by the advancing fire, villagers began spraying water around their homes and removed dry grass to prevent the flames from reaching residential areas.

Local residents are maintaining constant vigil to monitor the fire’s spread. However, despite the growing threat, forest department officials failed to reach the site, allowing the forest to continue burning unchecked.
