The 6th National Conference on Family Medicine and Primary Care was officially inaugurated at AIIMS Rishikesh under the theme “Primary Care Physicians are the Foundation of the Public Health System.” The three-day conference will witness discussions from family medicine specialists across India on various aspects of community health.
The event was led by AIIMS Executive Director and CEO, Professor Dr. Meenu Singh, and was inaugurated by Mrs. Swati S. Bhadauria, Director of NHM Mission, Uttarakhand, along with Dr. Tara Arya, Director General of Medical Health, Uttarakhand.
Mrs. Swati S. Bhadauria emphasized that the government is already working to extend health services to the public through schemes like Ayushman Arogya Yojana. She noted that any future programs aimed at public health will be related to primary care, with full support from NHM. She also highlighted the need to promote training and research in primary care.
During the event, Dr. Bhadauria urged all doctors present to focus on public health improvement and work with dedication to achieve the goals of the conference. Dr. Tara Arya highlighted the enduring importance of the medical profession and emphasized the responsibility of doctors to provide better healthcare services with a positive environment and behavior. She stressed the need to recognize the continuous services of doctors working in remote areas.

Dr. Arya also called for the formation of joint teams of doctors and nurses to further enhance primary care and create a healthier environment for patients in rural and remote areas. The conference saw participation from various medical experts, including Professor Dr. Jaya Chaturvedi, Dean of Academics at AIIMS, Dr. Santosh Kumar, Nodal Officer of AIIMS Outreach Cell and Associate Professor at CFM Department, Dr. Raman Kumar, President of AFPI, Dr. Smriti Arora, Principal of the College of Nursing, and Dr. Pramendra Gupta.
