Nearly two lakh Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) policyholders in Uttarakhand are now free from paying GST on their insurance premiums, following a rate revision announced two months ago under the government’s “Savings Festival.” Officials confirmed that PLI has around 59,000 policyholders in the state, while RPLI covers nearly 1.48 lakh people.
Earlier, policyholders were required to pay 4.5% premium tax while depositing premiums and 2.25% GST at the time of policy renewal. This tax burden has been completely removed from September, providing direct financial relief to families relying on postal insurance schemes.
With GST withdrawn, policyholders no longer face additional charges during premium payment or renewal, making PLI and RPLI more affordable for rural and urban customers.
