State Child Rights Commission Expresses Concern Over Unrecognized Madrasas in Uttarakhand

The State Child Rights Commission has raised concerns over the future of children studying in unrecognized madrasa schools in Uttarakhand. The commission stated that such children face difficulties in securing admission to other schools. The observation came during a hearing on a complaint against a madrasa operating in a Muslim settlement without recognition.

Commission Chairperson Dr. Geeta Khanna directed the representatives of the Modern Madrasa to meet the necessary standards for recognition at the earliest. Additionally, the Block Education Officer has been instructed to facilitate the enrollment of these children in recognized schools until the madrasa attains formal approval.

In a separate case, the commission criticized the absence of a school representative from Hilton School during a hearing regarding allegations of fee harassment in 2023. The commission warned of issuing summons through the police if representatives continue to remain absent. The education department has also been directed to submit a detailed report on the matter.

Furthermore, the commission has sought an investigation report against Raja Ram Roy School over complaints of fee hikes and violations of the Right to Education (RTE) Act. District education officials have been tasked with inspecting the school for deficiencies in infrastructure and illegal fee collections. The commission has warned of strict actions, including issuing a show-cause notice for revoking the school’s No Objection Certificate (NOC).
