Strict Action Against Adulteration Ahead of Holi, Intensive Raids Underway in Uttarakhand

With Holi festival approaching, the Food Safety Department of Uttarakhand has launched an extensive crackdown against adulteration. Several surprise inspections are being conducted across the state to ensure the safety and purity of food products. On March 7, 2025, the Food Safety team in Dehradun’s Vikasnagar area intercepted a private vehicle transporting paneer and mawa. Initial investigation revealed that the food items were sourced from an unlicensed manufacturing unit located in Manglour, Haridwar.

Unlicensed Factory Raided, 100 Kg Adulterated Paneer Destroyed

Led by Joint Commissioner Dr. R.K. Singh, a team of food safety officers and police raided the factory in Manglour. It was found operating illegally without a license and producing paneer on a large scale. During the raid, about 100 kilograms of adulterated paneer along with adulterated palm oil, refined oil, and other harmful chemicals were seized. Preliminary examination indicated the paneer was contaminated. Samples were sent to a laboratory for further testing, and the seized paneer was immediately destroyed on-site to protect public health.

Strict Legal Action Under Food Safety Act
Legal proceedings under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, have been initiated against the factory for illegal operation and adulteration. Officials assured stringent measures against such violations.

Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar, Food Safety Commissioner, said, “We have a zero-tolerance policy towards adulteration. Our priority is to ensure pure and safe food for the public, especially during major festivals like Holi. Such actions will continue, and food safety officers have been directed to take strict action against adulterators.”

Deputy Commissioner Tajbar Singh Jaggi added, “Our team is continuously inspecting markets. Based on laboratory reports, severe legal action will be taken against those found guilty. We urge consumers to report any suspicion about food quality immediately to the Food Safety Department.”

Statewide Anti-Adulteration Campaign to Continue

The Food Safety and Drug Administration of Uttarakhand has warned that strict action will be taken against those selling adulterated food items during festivals. The department appeals to the public to report any suspected cases promptly to help curb such malpractices.
