Tehri – SurSinghdhar Government Nursing College in Tehri district has been granted recognition as a postgraduate institution, with approval for 15 seats in the MSc Nursing programme. The decision was discussed during a detailed review meeting chaired by Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar, who instructed officials to complete all processes on priority.

The Health Secretary reviewed infrastructure status, financial and administrative sanctions, and findings of the inspection committee. He said time-bound execution of the Chief Minister’s announcements is the department’s top priority and directed that the project must be completed on war footing to strengthen nursing education and specialist manpower in hill districts. However, despite repeated assurances, questions are being raised about delays in implementation and whether announcements translate effectively on the ground.

According to Dr. Kumar, financial and administrative approvals were issued on 14 August 2025, fulfilling CM Announcement No. 311/2025. An inspection committee was earlier constituted to assess facilities. After site inspection on 14 November 2025, the committee reported that academic buildings, laboratories, library, multipurpose hall and additional classrooms were adequate. The college currently has 71,900.33 sq ft area, including 32,452.97 sq ft academic and 39,447.36 sq ft hostel space. Clinical training facilities are available at District Hospital Baurari (100 beds) and CHC Narendra Nagar (50 beds).

Based on the report, the committee recommended launching the MSc Nursing programme with 15 seats. Officials claim the programme will boost opportunities for nursing students and improve specialist health services in mountain regions. Still, local stakeholders hope that this approval will not remain just another formal announcement without tangible progress, a common concern with previous development assurances in remote districts.
