Rudraprayag: The winter doli (palanquin) of Lord Tungnath, the third Kedar, has been ceremoniously installed at his winter seat in Makkumath with grand religious rituals and Vedic chants. The moving idols of Lord Tungnath were placed in the sanctum sanctorum amid chants of “Jai Baba Tungnath,” as hundreds of devotees gathered to witness the auspicious moment.
The sacred procession began from Bhankun Cave at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Earlier, on November 6, the portals of Lord Tungnath Temple were formally closed for the winter season. After the closure, the doli halted overnight at Chopta and reached Bhankun before continuing to Makkumath the next day.
After a ritual bath in the Rakshi River, the doli, accompanied by hundreds of devotees, arrived at the Makkumath temple premises around 2 p.m. Amid loud devotional chants, the palanquin was ceremoniously placed in the temple hall.
The rituals were performed under the guidance of Mathadhish Ram Prasad Maithani, with priests Revadhar Maithani, Prakash Maithani, Atul Maithani, Mukesh Maithani, Vinod Maithani, and Chandraprakash Maithani leading the Vedic ceremonies. The idols were then installed in the sanctum for winter worship.
With the arrival of the doli, the winter worship of Lord Tungnath will now continue at Makkumath until the reopening of the temple in summer.
