Booth Level Awareness Groups (BAG) will now work alongside Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttarakhand. Chief Electoral Officer Dr. BVRC Purushottam has directed all District Magistrates to ensure the formation of BAGs at every polling station by 10 December.
According to Election Commission guidelines, BAGs will help streamline and support SIR operations. The BLO Supervisor of the polling station will serve as the Chairperson, while the BLO of the polling station will act as Member Secretary. Other members will include a Gram Panchayat Development Officer, Village Development Officer, MANREGA personnel, or other government staff from the concerned area. Additionally, an officially appointed Booth Level Agent (BLA) from recognized political parties will also be part of the group.
These members will work voluntarily with BLOs during SIR. The group will assist in identifying the status of voters whose verification forms are not returned, by gathering information from nearby residents and determining reasons such as migration, death, duplication, or absence. BAGs will prepare a list of such voters, enabling BLOs to complete the revision process more efficiently.
