The budget session of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly began on Monday in the state’s summer capital Gairsain amid protests and political uproar. Even before the session formally started, workers of the Indian National Congress staged a demonstration in the Vidhan Bhavan premises.
Congress leaders and MLAs demanded that the duration of the budget session be extended. Raising slogans, several Congress legislators sat on a protest within the assembly premises to press their demand.
As soon as the session commenced, opposition members continued their protest and entered the well of the House while shouting slogans. Amid the noise and disruption, the Governor’s address began in the assembly.
However, soon after the address started, Congress MLAs intensified their protest inside the House. In the middle of the Governor’s speech, the protesting legislators walked out of the assembly in protest.
The incident led to chaos in the House at the very beginning of the budget session, highlighting tensions between the ruling side and the opposition over the conduct and duration of the proceedings.
