Uttarakhand lawyers halt work statewide demanding chamber space allocation

Uttarakhand – Lawyers across Uttarakhand observed a full-day judicial strike demanding immediate land allocation for the construction of advocate chambers. The strike, supported by the Bar Council of Uttarakhand, affected court-related services including filing, typing, stamp vendors and case assistance, leaving litigants without essential support.

The protest stems from the long-pending demand of Dehradun Bar Association for chamber construction at the old District Judge Court campus in the Civil Lines area. The association alleges that despite multiple communications, the state government has not taken concrete action, forcing them to intensify their agitation. Last week, lawyers blocked traffic for nearly three and a half hours on Haridwar Road, raising slogans over what they called government indifference.

The protest was led by Bar Association Dehradun President Manmohan Kandwal and Secretary Rajbir Singh Bisht. Lawyers say they will continue symbolic protests if the authorities fail to respond, warning that prolonged disruption could affect justice delivery for thousands of citizens.
