Dehradun: During the NRI Uttarakhandi Summit at Doon University, a special session was held to promote the state’s local culture, arts, and cinema. The event focused on positioning Uttarakhand as a prominent film-shooting destination, highlighting various initiatives by the state government. Banshidhar Tiwari, CEO of the Uttarakhand Film Development Council and Director General of Information, shared insights on the state’s efforts to attract filmmakers worldwide by showcasing Uttarakhand’s scenic locales.
Mr. Tiwari explained that under the recently announced Uttarakhand Film Policy 2024, regional language films will receive a subsidy of up to 50% of production costs or a maximum of ₹2 crore. For films in Hindi and other languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, the subsidy is set at 30% or up to ₹3 crore. Additionally, short films, documentaries, OTT content, and web series have now been included under the subsidy scheme. The policy also provides grants for establishing film cities and film institutes within the state.

Regional language films will help preserve Uttarakhand’s civilization and cultural heritage, said Mr. Tiwari, adding that films play a crucial role in keeping the state’s history and traditions alive. Cultural festivals like Phooldei, traditional fairs, and local dialects can be preserved and promoted through films. The summit also highlighted notable locations for film shoots, such as Adi Kailash, Chakrata, Mana, Malari, Gamshali, Ramni, Jageshwar, and others, as prime destinations due to their natural beauty and cultural significance.
