Uttarkashi: Restaurant’s Muslim Staff Arrested for Spitting on Roti, License Suspended

Uttarkashi – In Uttarkashi, police arrested a restaurant staff member accused of spitting on food and hurting religious sentiments. The restaurant has been sealed, and its license cancellation report has been sent to the Food Department.

According to police, on the night of October 15, locals reported that a restaurant worker near the petrol pump in Uttarkashi market had spat on food. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under BNS  sections 196(1)(e) and 274 for contaminating food and outraging religious sentiments. The Food Safety Department has begun the process to cancel the restaurant’s license, and further legal action is underway. Police appealed to the public to maintain peace and communal harmony.

Following the viral video of the incident on social media, members of Hindu organizations staged a protest and called for a market shutdown in Uttarkashi. Protesters demanded strict legal action against the accused, whose act has been widely condemned by residents and religious groups in the district.
