A vigilance team from Dehradun conducted a surprise raid at the Chakbandi office in Roorkee and caught Kanungo Krishnapal red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹2,000. The accused is currently being interrogated, with police also deployed at the scene.
According to sources, a villager had filed a complaint with the Dehradun vigilance office, alleging that the Kanungo at Roorkee Tehsil’s Chakbandi office was demanding a bribe to process official work. Upon investigation, the allegations were found to be true, leading vigilance officials to set up a sting operation on Wednesday. The complainant was sent with ₹2,000, and as soon as he handed over the money, the vigilance team arrested the accused on the spot.
The raid created a stir in the tehsil premises, with police arriving immediately, while a crowd gathered outside the Chakbandi office. The vigilance team is currently interrogating the accused for further details.
