Roorkee – A serious case of corruption has surfaced at Roorkee Civil Hospital after the Vigilance Department arrested a doctor red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The accused doctor was posted on emergency duty and had allegedly demanded money from a complainant in the name of issuing a medical supplementary report.
According to sources, the doctor had joined Roorkee Civil Hospital barely 20 days ago and was earlier posted in Mussoorie. The victim approached the Vigilance Department with a complaint regarding the bribe demand, following which a trap was planned.
As soon as the doctor accepted the fixed amount inside the emergency ward, the vigilance team caught him on the spot. The sudden action created panic within the hospital premises, drawing attention from staff and patients present at the time.
The accused doctor has been taken into custody and is being questioned. Vigilance officials have initiated the process to register a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Authorities are also examining whether the doctor was involved in similar activities earlier.
The incident has raised serious questions over the functioning and monitoring of healthcare services at the civil hospital.
