For the first time, helicopter services are set to launch for Yamunotri Dham to enhance pilgrim convenience during the Char Dham Yatra. The Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) has expedited preparations for this service. A helipad near Yamunotri Dham has already been constructed, and two successful trial landings have been conducted. If implemented, devotees will be able to reach Yamunotri by helicopter, similar to Kedarnath Dham.
Until now, no helicopter service was available for Yamunotri, requiring pilgrims to trek 5-6 kilometers. Those unable to walk relied on mules and palanquins. The proposed heli service aims to ease travel for elderly pilgrims, with priority for those above 50 years in the initial phase.
To curb ticket scalping and fraud in Kedarnath heli services, strict SOPs will be implemented this year. UCADA has signed a three-year contract with nine pre-approved aviation companies, ensuring regulated and fair operations.
Hindon-Pithoragarh Air Service Approved
To strengthen air connectivity in Uttarakhand’s border district of Pithoragarh, DGCA has approved a Hindon-Pithoragarh flight route. A 42-seater aircraft will operate on this route, with UCADA in the process of selecting an aviation company. This initiative is expected to boost tourism in the region.
