39 Killed in Stampede at Vijay’s TVK Rally in Karur, CM Stalin Visits Victims

A massive tragedy struck Tamil Nadu’s Karur district when a stampede broke out during a rally of Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) led by actor and party chief Vijay. At least 39 people lost their lives, including 12 men, 16 women, and 10 children. Hospitals in Karur were overwhelmed as scores of injured were rushed in for treatment. Police resorted to baton charges to control the panicked crowd. Senior ministers, officials, and police personnel rushed to the site following the incident.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed deep concern over the incident and reached Karur to meet the victims and their families. Former minister and DMK leader V. Senthil Balaji, who visited Karur Government Medical College Hospital earlier, confirmed that at least 31 people had died by then and 58 others were admitted for treatment. He added that the Chief Minister had ordered immediate intervention, deployment of additional doctors, and adequate medical care.

TVK chief Vijay, visibly shaken by the tragedy, issued a heartfelt condolence message. “I am in unbearable pain and grief. Words cannot express my sorrow. My deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of my beloved brothers and sisters who lost their lives in Karur. I pray for the speedy recovery of those receiving treatment in hospitals,” he said.

Authorities reported that 46 people remain under treatment at private hospitals, while 12 are admitted in government facilities. The situation continues to be closely monitored by state authorities.
