A Rishikesh police encounter was reported near the Forest Department barrier on Dehradun Road during a routine vehicle checking drive. According to police, a युवक from Haryana tried to flee after spotting the checking team, triggering a tense chase that ended in his arrest.
Officials said the accused, identified as Imran, suddenly ran towards the Kali Mandir area when signaled to stop. The police team immediately followed him, and he entered a nearby forest area in an attempt to escape. During the chase, police claimed that the युवक opened fire on the team after being asked to surrender.
In response, the police surrounded him and managed to overpower and arrest him. No injuries were reported on the police side during the incident.
Police further stated that the accused has links to a truck theft case, indicating a possible criminal background. SP Rural Jaya Baluni confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the exact reason behind the firing and the sequence of events.
