The Run for Awareness rally was flagged off by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Haldwani as part of the state’s anti-drug campaign. The event was organised at MB Inter College ground to promote the message of a drug-free Uttarakhand.

Addressing the gathering before the rally, the Chief Minister said the Run for Awareness is not just a physical activity but a collective pledge for a healthy and addiction-free society. He urged participants to spread the message that the youth of Uttarakhand are saying ‘no’ to drugs and ‘yes’ to life.

Highlighting the growing concern of substance abuse, Dhami described addiction as a “silent threat” targeting the youth. He said many young people fall into addiction casually, but it becomes difficult to recover, affecting both individuals and families.

The Run for Awareness campaign is inspired by the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020. The state government, he said, is working in mission mode to tackle drug abuse through awareness and strict enforcement.

Officials informed that the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, formed in 2022, has arrested several accused and seized significant quantities of narcotics. Addiction Treatment Facilities are being operated, and such centres are also being established in government medical colleges.

The Chief Minister also highlighted initiatives like ‘Dagadiya Clubs’, aimed at engaging youth in positive activities and keeping them away from drugs. He stressed that the fight against addiction cannot be won by laws alone and requires active participation from society.

During the event, hundreds of युवाओं took a pledge for de-addiction, along with several dignitaries including Cabinet Minister Ram Singh Kaida, Mayor Gajraj Singh Bisht, and other officials.
