Champawat: Tension escalated in Champawat after a gang rape case triggered public anger, with a violent clash breaking out inside the police station. The situation turned chaotic as members from both sides entered the premises and engaged in physical assault.
According to information, former mandal president Kamal Rawat had been assisting police in locating the victim after receiving information about the incident. The victim was later recovered from a room, and a video of the spot was also recorded. However, upon reaching the police station, Rawat was allegedly attacked by individuals from the accused side, leaving him injured.
The situation worsened when around eight to ten people reportedly entered the police station and launched an attack, turning the परिसर into a battleground. Police had to intervene to control the situation.
Earlier in the morning, Rawat had reached the police station along with the victim’s side to file a complaint. As the victim’s father is reportedly seriously ill, Rawat was helping in drafting the complaint. During this time, another accused reached the station, possibly to submit a counter complaint, following which tensions flared.

Amid chaos, shouting and allegations from both sides, police struggled to manage the situation before taking strict action to disperse the crowd. SP Rekha Yadav stated that preventive action under Section 151 has been taken in the matter.
