Kichha: A man was allegedly abducted, assaulted and threatened with death after opposing illegal mining activities in the Pulbhatta area. Police have registered a case against a former village head, his son and several unidentified persons.
According to the complaint filed by Salim Ahmad, a resident of Nai Basti Pulbhatta, the incident took place on Tuesday evening when he had gone to a mobile shop in Pulbhatta. He alleged that former village head Jumma Khan and his son Sohil Khan were already present there and started abusing and threatening him.
Salim alleged that after he objected, Sohil called several others to the spot. The accused allegedly forced him into a car, assaulted him and took him to an empty shop near a bar in Pulbhatta. There, they allegedly pressured him to call his son Joyab to the location.
The complainant said he was repeatedly beaten but refused to call his son. Hearing his screams, nearby people gathered at the spot. Salim later managed to escape after pretending that he would bring his son along.
He further alleged that Jumma Khan, Sohil Khan and their associates had threatened and assaulted him earlier as well. According to the complaint, the accused are involved in illegal mining activities near the Uttar Pradesh border, and villagers had been opposing the movement of mineral-laden vehicles through the area.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against Jumma Khan, Sohil Khan and unidentified persons. SHO Pradeep Mishra said the matter is under investigation.
