A young motorcyclist was killed in a tragic road accident in Gopeshwar late Tuesday night after a speeding truck allegedly hit his bike near the Lissa Factory Bypass turn. The impact was so severe that the rider became trapped beneath the truck and died on the spot.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Mukesh Negi, son of Kalam Singh and a resident near Law College, Gopeshwar. Police received information about the accident at around 11:30 pm and immediately rushed to the scene. The victim was found trapped along with his motorcycle under the truck. With the help of a JCB machine, rescue personnel extricated him and shifted him to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the truck driver had allegedly been driving recklessly after colliding with several parked vehicles near Gaveelo village while heading towards Gopeshwar. Police reportedly attempted to stop the truck at the Patiyaldhar Police Outpost, but the driver broke through the barricades and fled.
The truck later struck Mukesh Negi’s motorcycle at the Lissa Factory Bypass turn, resulting in the fatal accident.
Police have since arrested the truck driver and initiated a detailed investigation into the incident. Deputy Superintendent of Police Madan Singh Bisht confirmed that the accused has been taken into custody and further legal proceedings are underway.
