A 20-year-old woman was rescued after allegedly jumping into the Gaula River from Gaula Bridge on Chorgalia Road in Haldwani on Wednesday night following an argument with her brother. Prompt action by local residents and police helped save her, and she is currently undergoing treatment at Sushila Tiwari Hospital.
According to police, the family originally belongs to Kichha in Udham Singh Nagar district and had shifted to a rented accommodation in the Indiranagar Chhoti Road area of Banbhoolpura around five days ago.
On Wednesday evening, the woman was preparing dinner at home when she reportedly got into a verbal argument with her brother. Family members later told the police that the disagreement appeared to be minor, and they did not anticipate that she would leave the house in distress.
However, the woman went to Gaula Bridge and, at around 8:00 pm, allegedly jumped into the river. People present near the bridge noticed the incident, raised an alarm, and rushed towards the river. With their timely intervention, she was rescued before any serious tragedy occurred.
After receiving information, Banbhoolpura Police reached the spot. The woman was immediately shifted to Sushila Tiwari Hospital for medical treatment, where she is receiving care.
Sub-Inspector Gagandeep Singh said that, according to the family, the incident followed a minor argument between the siblings. Police are further looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
