The Supreme Court has extended the NEET-UG 2023 admission process deadline to December 30. A bench comprising Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice K.V. Viswanathan directed fresh counselling to fill vacant seats, emphasizing the importance of not leaving valuable medical seats unoccupied due to the severe shortage of doctors in the country.
The decision came during the hearing of petitions seeking a special counselling session for seats left vacant after five rounds of counselling. The court approved this as a “one-time measure” but clarified that it should not set a precedent for the future.
Additionally, the court mandated that no college would be allowed direct admissions. Admissions will be strictly through the waiting list candidates and authorized admission officials.
