Kausani’s tea gardens have emerged as a major tourist attraction even during the monsoon season, when visitor numbers usually decline at several hill destinations. From April to August, 22,696 tourists visited the Tea Board’s tea garden and factory in Kausani, Bageshwar.
Tourists from Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Mumbai and West Bengal have been among those visiting the destination. The combination of lush greenery after rainfall, Himalayan views through the clouds and the aroma of fresh tea has continued to attract visitors.
According to the available figures, 16,696 tickets were sold at the Tea Board’s tea factory between April and July. At ₹25 per ticket, the facility generated more than ₹4.17 lakh in ticket revenue during the period.
June recorded the highest number of visitors during these months, with 7,257 tickets sold. This was followed by 6,142 tickets in May and 2,497 in April. Around 800 tourists purchased tickets in July. By August, the total number of visitors recorded from April had reached 22,696.
Rain Fails to Slow Tourist Footfall
While heat and humidity continue in the plains, tourists are heading towards the cooler hill regions. Rainfall has further enhanced Kausani’s greenery, while the tea gardens and surrounding landscape have become an attraction for visitors.
Tourist activity has continued into September as well. Around 1,800 tourists have visited Kausani so far this month, indicating that the monsoon has not completely slowed tourism activity.
Tea Gardens Offer More Than a Factory Visit
The Tea Board complex has increasingly become more than a place to observe tea production. Visitors are exploring the tea gardens, learning about the production process and enjoying the surrounding natural environment.
Tourists are also purchasing locally produced organic green tea, black tea and other varieties. The combination of the gardens, peaceful surroundings and aroma of tea is adding to the visitor experience.
Tea Board Manager Pramod Kumar said tourists have continued to visit the tea gardens and factory and are also purchasing different varieties of tea.
Bageshwar District Tourism Officer PK Gautam said tourism-related preparations are underway for the winter tourism season beginning September 15. He said tourist numbers are expected to increase as the weather clears, with further growth anticipated in October and November.
